Lab Seminar - Antibiotic use in Chile's salmon aquaculture industry
Thomas Anderson presented his research about antibiotic use in Chile's salmon aquaculture industry. Chile is the world's second largest producer of salmon, accounting for 25% of global supplies. But the industry relies heavily on antibiotics to control outbreaks of infectious disease on its salmon farms. Growing concern over antibiotic resistance has prompted the industry to commit to significant reductions in aggregate antibiotic use. In this presentation, TJ explored preliminary ideas for identifying cost-effective strategies to achieve the targeted reductions. TJ focused on the extent to which market structure, spatial connectivity, and existing regulations may serve as key drivers of firm behavior.
